Jailhouse Rock (MGM, 1957).
Three Sheet (41" X 81"). This was one of Elvis Presley's best pre-Army films, and showcasing a sensual Elvis who was both sexual and dangerous. This lethal combination provoked emotions of admiration from teenagers and disdain from their elders. Elvis was already the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" when he gyrated his way onto the screen, and he soon became a box office sensation as well. This colorful large format poster is the quintessential Elvis collectable. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.

Rebel Without a Cause (Warner Brothers, 1955).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). The title alone summed up a generation of youth without direction, and their patron saint was James Dean. Dean had risen to stardom the previous year in "East of Eden," depicting a young man searching for direction and acceptance. With "Rebel," Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo solidified the persona of misunderstood youth and became the idols and symbols of teens across America. Unfortunately, Dean was killed in an auto accident a week before the film was released and never knew the impact his life would have. This poster is undoubtedly the most sought after of all the Dean posters with its iconographic image of Dean in the red jacket leaning against the wall with a "smoke" in hand, a legend in the making. Very Fine.

Dial M For Murder (Warner Brothers, 1954).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Based on the popular mystery play by Frederick Knott, Grace Kelly made her first film for Alfred Hitchcock in this thriller about a man who plots the murder of his wife. The film was shot in 3D, capitalizing on the craze that was sweeping the nation; however, none of the posters created for the film exploit the 3D tags. One of the best posters ever designed for a Hitchcock film. Fine/Very Fine.

Robin Hood (United Artists, 1922).
Lobby Card Set (8) (11" X 14"). This was Douglas Fairbanks' biggest and most lavish production of the silent era. Fairbanks and his wife Mary Pickford, began this big-budget medieval pageantry by constructing a near-lifesized replica of a 12th century Nottingham castle! Known as the original swashbuckler, Fairbanks was at his acrobatic best, sliding down a two-story tapestry during one of the films climatic moments. Offered here is a rare, full lobby set for this wonderful silent era production. Seldom do entire lobby sets from these classic silent films appear and one usually has to piece the set together over a number of years. Very Fine. (Total: 8 pieces)

Grand Hotel (MGM, 1932).
Title Lobby Card (11" X 14"). MGM pulled out all the stops in the first of their star-studded features. This film won the Best Picture Oscar the year of its release, and was a tremendous money maker. There was scepticism initially that by putting all of their stars in one picture, Greta Garbo, John and Lionel Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery that they (the studio) might lose money, instead of spreading the stars out over 5 or 6 pictures. With its financial and critical success, the way was open to produce many similar films. This lovely title card is a very rare commodity in the poster collecting hobby, as is anything from the original release of this film. Very Good+ with replaced borders.

Jesse James (20th Century Fox, 1939).

Henry King directed this Technicolor classic, which depicts James, played by Tyrone Power, as a Robin Hood of his day. Posters from this film have always been very difficult to find. Offered in this lot is a beautiful rolled half sheet. Paper Backed, Very Fine.

One Sheet Style A (27" X 41"). This Ernst Lubitsch comedy film tells the story of a faithful doctor and his wife who are tempted into having affairs when exposed to a ruckus dance team. Although there is much suggested in the film, there isn't a single censurable image throughout, which made the movie a favorite of audiences and critics alike. Ernst Lubitsch was a master silent era filmmaker and the most widely imitated comic director of the sound era. This beautiful poster is a fabulous illustration of one his earlier works, created during the gaiety of the roaring 1920s. Very Fine on Linen.

The Postman Always Rings Twice (MGM, 1946).
Half Sheet (22" x 28"). James M. Cain's shocking crimer told a gritty story of a drifter who starts work in a diner and soon begins an affair with the owner's wife. Lana Turner, a platinum blonde bombshell, was cast as the insatiable wife, and John Garfield was the man who drifted into her irresistible charms. Although the novel was written in 1934, MGM had to wait until 1946 before they were allowed to make such an unsavory film. One of the most sought after titles of the entire film noir genre. He was one of the top cowboy stars of the silent era often under John Ford's direction. John Wayne idolized Carey from his days as a child seeing Carey on the screen. Always an audience favorite, Carey later accepted secondary roles in "A" features (he earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as the Vice President in Frank Capra's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"). The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (United Artists, 1968).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Though shot as the final installment of the Leone/ Eastwood "spaghetti western" trilogy, this film was the prequel of the previous two films. Beginning with 10 minutes of film with no dialogue, this tale of the man with no name was destined to be a classic of international cinema. Clint Eastwood, star of TVs "Rawhide," took these roles offered to him by Leone since no studio would hire him for feature work. The studios felt that no one would pay to see an actor they could see for free. Eastwood, in collaboration with Leone, would create a character that would establish his stardom for the next half century. Very Fine/ Near Mint on Linen.

Don's Fountain of Youth (RKO, 1953).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Three years after this cartoon short was made, Disney would stop producing the cartoons on which his empire was built. Donald had come up from a supporting character with his debut in 1935's "The Wise Little Hen" to become Disney's top character by 1940, surpassing Mickey Mouse in popularity. The star duck continued his reign through the forties and into the fifties with Mickey never regaining his top position. Though Mickey will always be Disney's star character, as it was the mouse that created the empire, Donald will always be Disney's most popular character. This lovely sheet pictures the duck in his classic sailor costume in two poses and is one of the better early fifties Donald posters. Very Fine+ on Linen.

Uncle Tom's Cabin (Universal, 1927).
One Sheet (24" X 38") & (8) Card Lobby Set (11" X 14"). Universal Studio's version of Uncle Tom was produced in 1927 with a big-budget, full-length version of the novel. (By 1927 "full length" meant just over two hours. "Big budget" added up to $1.8 million, though it was advertised as $2.million.) The story was dramatically changed to be more about the story of Eliza and her troubles, with Uncle Tom becoming a very secondary character. This lot contains posters from the 1927 talkie version of the classic novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was directed by Harry Pollard and starred his wife, Margarita Fisher, as the tragic Eliza. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Allied Artists, 1956).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). As the "red scare" swept the nation during the 1950s, feelings of paranoia overwhelmed the populace that they would be "taken over" by communists. The filmmakers of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" played upon this fear by using space pods as a metaphor for communists. This poster also plays on these psychological fears using a "red" background and a huge hand (fivers -- a reference to fifth columnists, communist spies) reaching for the fleeing citizens! As a bonus, this poster has been signed by the two principal players in the film, Kevin McCarthy and Dana Wynter. A classic poster for a classic film. Very Fine on Linen.

But when none of Paramount's scriptwriters could come up with a credible script, the project was put on the shelf until producer George Pal unearthed it in 1950. Originally a huge box office flop, it's public domain status made it available for TV audiences in the 70's and the rest is history. The story of Harry Bailey's (Stewart) life-affirming look at the world without him through the often fumbled efforts of his guardian angel, Clarence Oddbody (a perfect casting in Henry Travers), this title card is a genuine treat for Stewart fans. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Allied Artists, 1956).
Three Sheet (41" X 81"). This is Don Siegel's low budget sci-fi genre masterpiece about body-transforming space spores who are intent upon taking control of the human race one body at a time. Its original working title was "They came from Another World." A prologue, new ending, and voice-over narration was added shortly after the film's initial release to help the moviegoers keep up with its non-linear plotline. "Body Snatchers" is often thought of as a Hollywood metaphor for the McCarthy tyranny that gripped America in the 50's. The tagline for the film, "They're here! They're coming for you !! You're next !!," sums it up. A terrific, memorable image centerpieces this ultra clean, linen-backed three sheet. Very Fine+ Linen Backed.

Program (8" X 11.5"). Fritz Lang's futuristic sci-fi classic was adapted from a novel written by his wife, Thea Von Harbou. In "Metropolis," two worlds coexist: the subterranean one, where human beings are slaves and must toil endlessly to survive, and the above-ground paradise, reserved only for the elite. This movie was produced not long after the industrial revolution, and may have been Lang's attempt to foreshadow what the world would been like if the "age of the machine" went unchecked. Material from this silent masterpiece is incredibly rare. Offered here is a complete 12-page French program. Fine/Very Fine.

Touch of Evil (Universal,1958).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Orson Welles was black-balled in Hollywood after the release of "Citizen Kane" and was given very little opportunity to direct. This film-noir masterpiece was directed 17 years after "Kane" but the film's impact showed that the trendsetter hadn't lost his touch. Very Fine/Near Mint.

The Stolen Bride (First National, 1927).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). Billie Dove, who gained popularity as a Ziegfeld girl, starred in this movie at the height of her career in the late 1920s. Dove was certainly considered Florenz Ziegfeld's most beautiful girl. As a star of stage and screen, Dove was hailed the "American Beauty." In this film she portrays a Hungarian countess who falls in love with a soldier in the Hapsburg army. This wonderful stone lithograph gives a stunning portrait of the dark-eyed, wavy-haired Ms. Dove. Very Fine.

Freaks (MGM, R-1949).
One Sheet (27" X 41"). This film, which actually used circus sideshow "freaks" in its cast, was considered so horrific when it was originally released in 1932, that MGM quickly pulled the film from distribution and spent the next thirty years distancing themselves as far from the project as possible. Original material for this classic horror film is exceedingly scarce and in constant demand. This re-release one sheet is a nice alternative. Fine on Linen.
