    Description

World War II Poster "Fire Away!" (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1944). Propaganda Poster (20" X 28"). War.
This poster has always been a favorite of collectors of WW II memorabilia. It's a wonderful painting which was actually a collaboration between Missouri born artist World War 1 Navy Veteran Thomas Hart Benton and the American patriotic immigrant from Belgium Georges Schreiber. It was originally created for Abbott Laboratories Collection of Submarine Paintings, a project largely executed aboard the American submarine USS Dorado, that was later lost in action with all hands. The poster became the official poster for the 5th War Bond drive, showing a signalman in the conning tower of a submarine who breaks through the darkness of the night sending a message via a signal light with "Fire Away!" text showing in the signal light's bright beam. It's a true classic of WWII posters. An unrestored poster that displays signs of use. May include light edge wear, with some tape and small stains in the borders. The lot includes the original government printed mailing envelope. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
