    Description

    Swiss Air Force Flight Day (Zurich, 1939). Full-Bleed Poster (36" X 50").
    It was not until the 1930s that Switzerland established an effective air force, one that inflicted several demoralizing defeats to the Nazi Luftwaffe while defending neutral Swiss airspace. In late August of 1939, the Swiss Air Force mobilized just days before Germany attacked Poland and initiated WWII. This stark poster was designed to promote confidence in Swiss citizens that their borders would be safe from the escalating conflicts around their country. Switzerland managed to keep a stance of armed neutrality during both World Wars, but was not completely immune to wartime activities, such as espionage, commerce, diplomacy and as a haven for refugees. The poster is in remarkable condition, and receives the highest grade possible for a poster mounted on linen. The linen has been trimmed up to the border. Very Fine+ on Linen.
