    Description

Reach for the Sky (Rank, 1956). British Three Sheet (40" X 78.5"). War.
This is a poster for the true life story of Douglas Bader, an irascible pilot who lost both legs in an accident in 1931, yet went on to become a real WWII hero, leading an RAF squadron to victory in a battle over London. This is the quite rare country-of-origin, British three sheet, painted by one of the finest film poster artists to ever hold a brush, Angelo Cesselon (look at his Don't Bother to Knock portrait poster for Marilyn Monroe, and Spellbound poster, just for starters.). This is one of his best "portraiture" style paintings for which he was famous. He had just received the 1955 Italian prize Spiga Cambellotti as the "Best Cinematographic Painter of the Year," when he began working on this piece. Truly a stunning stone litho image of one of Britain's greatest war heroes. Starring Kenneth More, Muriel Pavlow, Lyndon Brook, Lee Patterson, Alexander Knox, Dorothy Alison, Michael Warre, Sydney Tafler, Howard Marion Crawford, Jack Watling, Nigel Green, Anne Leon, Charles Carson, Ronald Adam, Walter Hudd. Directed by Lewis Gilbert. An unrestored poster with bright color and a clean overall appearance. It may have general signs of use, such as slight fold separation and fold wear, light edge wear with some small tears and chips, pinholes, and some minor stains and smudges in the bottom panel. Please see full-color, enlargeable image below for more details. Folded, Very Fine-.
