DescriptionTraffic in Souls (Universal Film Manufacturing, 1913). Very Fine on Linen. Trimmed One Sheet (27.25" X 39.25").
Traffic in Souls is a silent crime drama that served a pivotal role in film history. Not only did the film's 88-minute runtime make it one of the first feature length films, but it also features groundbreaking uses of the camera by cinematographer Henry Alder. While a few movies of the time were experimenting with tilts and pans of the camera to follow movement, Alder used camera movements to convey meaning and build anticipation of action. Directed by George Loane Tucker, Traffic in Souls is preserved in the U.S. Natioanl Film registry for its significance in the history of filmmaking. Though Heritage has offered two different versions of one sheet for Traffic in Souls before, this is the first time this particular design is being offered. The poster displays wonderfully, with no restoration needed beyond backing on linen. The poster has some light edge wear, minute tears, a few faint scuffs, a tiny chip in the center crossfold, and unobtrusive smudges and stains in the borders. The poster's borders have been trimmed slightly on each side, but no images or text are affected.
Estimate: $1,500 - $3,000.
