    Description

    Spies (UFA, 1928). Pre-War Belgian (24" X 32").
Expressionist mastermind Fritz Lang set the bar for the espionage genre with this follow-up to his landmark film Metropolis, creating themes and character archetypes that would influence countless spy thrillers for years to come, including the wildly popular James Bond franchise. Utilizing the sharp angles, warped curves, and contrasting shadows quintessential to German expressionism, Lang provides a surreal atmosphere that heightens the suspense felt throughout this high action thriller, making the three hour runtime fly by for captive audiences. As arresting as any talkie, this silent drama is a testament to the power of a tightly written plot, talented acting, and phenomenal visuals that still enthrall viewers ninety years after its first release. This striking stone litho beauty has had touchup to the folds, pinholes, and chips in the borders. There were two small holes in the Gerda Maurus' cheek, and a chip in the center horizontal fold with a vertical tear into her hair. Now display ready, this poster has some touchup in the title and background. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
