    Description

Fantômas (Les Etablissements Braunberger- Richebe, 1932). French Petite (11.75" X 15.75").
A quite rare, country of origin, French petite, for a very intriguing murder mystery. Director Paul Fejos is certainly one of the most interesting men behind a camera in the 1920-30s. In the late 1920s he made two avant-garde films, one about suicide and one about loneliness in the big city, and they're both amazing. Like Fejos, this poster was ahead of its time, with arresting graphics of the hooded, black-clad Fantomas, who robs the rich...and gives to himself. This poster should be studied in poster design class for its totally successful use of little more than light and shadow. The poster is on linen with some minimal touch-up for pinholes in the borders and one in the artwork, and a slight trim of white paper in two borders, not affecting the art. Fine+ on Linen.
