The Wizard of Oz (MGM, 1939). One Sheet (27" X 41") Style D.
This musical fantasy film was produced by MGM at an expense estimated at $2,700,000, 1939 depression era dollars, but only earned the studio just over $3 million in return despite positive reviews. A paltry sum in the day. It was the 1956 television revival which would become an annual tradition that has made this film one of the most loved and remembered in history. Starring a 16 year-old Judy Garland and a brilliant supporting cast, the film is one of the most collected titles in the poster hobby. This is a Heritage first of what is considered to be the better style one sheet of the two produced for the film's original release. There has been restoration to address a 3/4" trim of the top border as well as some staining in the white field of the poster, into the color caricatures, and slightly into the lower yellow field. There has been touchup to two tears in the left border that extend into the brown area behind the Wicked Witch's hat, a small hole in front of the Witch's face, a small tear in the right border that extends into the blue background, and minor, sporadic paper loss within the credits below Billie Burke's name.
