The Champion (Essanay, 1915). Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 42").
Heritage is proud to present this fabulous and rare one sheet for Charlie Chaplin's Essanay classic, The Champion. Chaplin becomes a boxer after finding a lucky horseshoe while walking his pet bulldog in the short film. Chaplin and his dog, an English Bulldog, Quapaw Lord Orry, are pictured in beautiful color on this stone litho poster. The film is an important piece of film history, and it was restored in 2015 with sponsorship from The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum from an original nitrate negative housed at the British Film Institute. Finding this copy in such fantastic condition is indeed a rarity. The poster is backed on linen, and it has a bit of airbrushing in the borders and touchup on wear in the folds, and there was an additional vertical fold. The poster had surface paper loss on the verso before backing, and there were creases, faint and unobtrusive smudges and stains, small tears, and a few minute chips in the folds. The majority of the wear was concentrated in the borders, with the image maintaining an outstanding appearance.

    Estimate: $30,000 - $60,000.
