    Description

    The Mark of Zorro (United Artists, 1920). Lobby Cards (2) (11" X 14").
    Inspired by the adventures of Johnston McCulley's masked swordsman featured in the magazine All-Story Weekly, Douglas Fairbanks lifts the swashbuckling hero, Zorro, from the pages to the screen with his first of many cinematic appearances. Not only the star, Fairbanks also wrote the adaptation of McCulley's original story, and was the film's producer, releasing it as the debut of his new studio, United Artists. These tinted cards show some great images of the nighttime vigilante's two personas, with the partially restored Zorro card showing touchup to pinholes in the borders and background, small scuffs in Fairbanks' head and his adversary's leg, and small tears in the borders. The card still shows small paper lifts in the upper border and a top right corner bend. The unrestored Don Diego Vega card shows a minute stain in the top right corner, faint smudging in the upper and right borders, and a very small corner bend in the top left corner. Very Fine-.
