    Description

Palisades Amusement Park (Berkshire Printing, 1937). Advertising Poster (30.5" X 46").
This fabulous pinup poster boasts beautiful artwork by Cardwell S. Higgins, and is shown on page 61 of the definitive The Great American Pin-Up book by Charles G. Martignette. Opened in 1898, Palisades Amusement Park was located in Bergen County, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City. At its peak, the park featured roller coasters, a Ferris wheel and other rides, along with the largest outdoor salt-water pool in America. So popular was the park that it inspired the 1962 up-tempo rock and roll tune by Freddy Cannon, "Palisades Park," which received nationwide radio play. However, due to terrible traffic conditions and inadequate parking, the park was closed in 1971. This rare poster shows water stains with some paper loss and tears in the lower border, water staining in the image and title at the upper and lower horizontal folds, and a tear in the left border with edge wear. Though backed on linen, no further restoration efforts have been made. Fine- on Linen.
