    Description

The Phantom Empire (Mascot, 1935). Very Fine- on Linen. One Sheet (27" X 41") Advance.
A rarity making its Heritage debut, this vibrant one sheet from Gene Autry's first ever starring role is an opportunity not to be missed by serial, Western or science fiction fans. Never before offered in auction, this magnificent stone litho one sheet is one of the holy grails of serial collectors! Rarely do the chapter one sheets appear in the market, which are not nearly as magnificent as this advance one sheet for the entire serial, with this being the only known copy. When cowboy mega-star Ken Maynard decided he was tired of filming serials, Mascot studio head Nat Levine unceremoniously dumped him in favor of a new and untried former actor, a singing cowboy named Gene Autry. The result was Hollywood history. In this immensely popular serial Autry and his pals, young Frankie Darro and Betsy King Ross, do battle with the forces of the underground city of Murania, all the while trying to stave off a group of evil businessmen who want to grab Autry's Radio Ranch for their own nefarious ends. Through it all, Autry manages to include at least one song in every one of the 12 thrilling episodes. Benefitting from professional restoration, this one sheet has had corrections to fold wear and separations, pinholes, and small chips in the borders and folds. The borders and parts of the yellow background have been airbrushed, completing the poster's neat and clean appearance.
