Description

The Phantom Empire (Mascot, 1935). Stock One Sheet (27" X 41").
When cowboy mega-star Ken Maynard decided he was tired of filming serials, Mascot studio head Nat Levine unceremoniously dumped him in favor of a new and untried former bit-player, a singing cowboy named Gene Autry. The result was Hollywood history. Autry stars in this, one of the most influential sci-fi films ever made. In 12 exciting chapters, Gene and his pals, young Frankie Darro and Betsy King Ross, do battle with the forces of the underground city of Murania, all the while trying to stave off a group of evil businessmen who want to grab Autry's Radio Ranch for their own nefarious ends. Through it all, Autry manages to include at least one song in every thrilling episode. There has been touchup to pinholes in the borders, a tear through the chapter box, fold wear, and a censor stamp. Post-restoration the linen has separated on the bottom left corner with a chip on the corner, and there is a smudge on the left border. The linen has been cut to the border of the poster. This full color one sheet, which has a blank area near the bottom for chapter snipes to be applied, is very scarce and is not pictured in the pressbook. Any posters for this serial are very rare! Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
