Description

Superman and the Mole Men (Lippert, 1951). British Quad (30" X 40") UK title Superman and the Strange People.
Ostensibly made as a pilot for the television series The Adventures of Superman, this was the first feature length live action Superman film (the previous entries had been serials). Replacing Kirk Alyn as the Man of Steel was George Reeves, a gifted 37-year old actor who had been impressive in such productions as Gone with the Wind and So Proudly We Hail. Returning from WWII, Reeves' career had stalled. Reduced to supporting roles, or leads in low budget films and serials, Reeves hoped the exposure from this film and potential television series might jump-start his career. He little anticipated what impact Superman was about to have on his life! Phyllis Coates, who was Lois Lane in the first season of the TV show, also stars. Superman comes to the aid of a race of pygmy underground dwellers who the local townspeople think are a menace. This is a very scarce British poster for the film, and has the alternate title which was never used in its U.S. release. The poster had fold wear, pinholes in the corners, two tears in the lower border, one of which went into the image, and writing below the word "Strange" prior to restoration, but presents beautifully now. Very Fine- on Linen.
