    Republic Confidential, Volume 1, "The Studio" (Jack Mathis, 25 Oct 1999). 1st Edition Book (512 Pages, 9.25" X 12.5) and Promotional Brochure (12 Pages, 12" X 17.25"). Book.
One of the very few "essential" books that you must read if you have any real interest or need to understand how the film industry worked in the golden age of Hollywood. This particular labor-of-love has an amazing 2000 photos and illustrations of the venerable Republic Studios! The book begins with an intense look at movie-making with a year by year chronology of Republic, the different trademarks, and a brick-by-brick tour of the lot. Every internal department and how if functioned is explored. The Republic Serials get special treatment, with great full-color photos of all 66 pressbook covers, posters, lobby cards and promo pieces! The book, due to its expensive printing costs, had a limited run. It comes in it's original mailing holder, and as a terrific plus, this lot includes the original oversize (12" X 17.25") brochure (also mint) outlining what the book would be about and what it would contain. There will be few opportunities to obtain this book in this condition. Mint.
