    Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Very Good on Paper. Half Sheet (22" X 28").
This film remains a top pick of most science fiction buffs, and this incredible half sheet has some of the best imagery of any poster from the genre. Based on the story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates, the picture set the tone for alien invasion pictures of the 1950s. Directed by Robert Wise, the movie introduces audiences to Klaatu, a mild-mannered space traveler whose sidekick is Gort, a colossal robot. When their spacecraft lands near the White House they try to convince humankind to end its war mongering. The only poster other than the title card to feature Klaatu within the artwork, this will be the crown jewel of any well conceived sci-fi collection! Professional restoration has corrected edge wear, vertical creases, moderate tears, and small bits of paper loss. There was a tear from the right border into the woman's shoulder, and the borders have been trimmed and restored. The image appears to show some slight color fading. Very Good on Paper.
