    Description

The Day the Earth Stood Still (20th Century Fox, 1951). Three Sheet (41" X 81").
The stunning posters from The Day the Earth Stood Still continue to consistently draw collectors, and for good reason. Their other-worldly graphics were inspired by the story upon which the film was based, Farewell to the Master by Harry Bates. A sci-fi genre milestone in the early 1950s, the film was directed by Robert Wise, who took the science fiction film mainstream with this thought provoking thriller. Its the story of Klaatu, a soft-spoken interplanetary traveler, and his "bodyguard" Gort, a huge robot who shoots laser-like death rays whenever threatened, that land their spacecraft near the White House. Ultimately, Klaatu's message for Earthlings is a peaceful one, but this three sheet captures an ominous, almost life-size Gort unleashing his lethal beam on an alarmed crowd. In excellent condition, the poster shows only a small tear in the bottom vertical fold, and light touchup to fold wear. The two sections of the three sheet are slightly misaligned due to printing, but do not detract from this display worthy piece. Very Fine on Linen.
