    Rollerball Original Preliminary Design Sketches by Bob Peak (United Artists, 1975). Hand Drawn Art Pages (32) (11.75"-22.5" X 16.5"-31"), German Sketchbooks (2) (Multiple Pages, 5.75" X 8.25" & 7" X 9.5").
Noted as one of the most imaginative and dynamic illustrators of the modern post-war era, Robert "Bob" Peak (1927-1992) has been considered by many as the "father of the modern movie poster." Known from his commercial work with Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, the U.S. Postal Service, and the 1984 Olympics (both Summer and Winter) to his innovative approach to movie poster designs from such films as My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Camelot, Superman, Apocalypse Now, and five Star Trek films. Offered in this lot is a unique collection of original preliminary sketches done on the set of Rollerball during filming in Germany. These gestural sketches were done with pencil, graphite, and colored markers, showing the very foundation and thought processes that Peak used to construct the final images used for the Rollerball advertising campaign and posters. There are large sheets of loose paper, as well as two German sketchbooks filled with design ideas, drawings, and references all building towards the final design. Any fan of the design process would appreciate seeing the steps that Peak used to construct his final vision of the posters used in the campaign. The collection of pages are in good shape with pinholes, corner bends, tears, and some missing paper, showing the working process of art. The smaller sketchbook is completely filled with doodles and sketches, with the larger sketchbook being halfway filled with sketches. Included with the original sketches and sketchbook is a crowd photo used as reference for the poster, as well as a folded one sheet of one of the final printed movie posters. Very Fine.
