Robot Monster (Astor Pictures, 1953). One Sheet (27" X 41") 3-D Style. One of the most overlooked and underappreciated films of the 1950s, Robot Monster is a triumph of creative filmmaking. It borrows stylistic elements from both the German Expressionists - the bizarre, almost hallucinatory set pieces, such as the otherwise inexplicable appearance of a pair of fighting lizards - and the Italian Neo-Realists. It presents a bleak and overwhelmingly helpless world view, in which a handful of brave partisans wage an impossible battle against a superior conquering force, as well as the naturalistic settings and a preference for untrained actors. Phil Tucker boldly brought forth a thoughtful and considered creative masterpiece about the alien conqueror Ro-Man, who, with the aid of his Calcinator Death Ray, has virtually wiped out most life on the planet. Truly, this is a film that needs to be watched more than once in order to gain a full appreciation of Tucker's unique artistic....Uh....yeah. Ok, so this is the film that gives Plan 9 from Outer Space a true run for the money as the Worst Film Ever! But what decadent fun it is. What can be said about a movie that cost $16,000 to make and its main villain is a man dressed in a gorilla costume and a diving helmet? By combining bad sets, cheap special effects, awful acting, a terrible script and more bloopers than imaginable, this film has become a cult classic. Truly, there's a reason Mystery Science Theatre 3000 could wait no longer than show number seven in their first season to feature this cult epic. There is a light stain and small tear in the upper border. Touchup has been applied to the folds, the 3-D logo, and the Tru-3 Dimension box. Hu-mans, you need to bid on this poster! Very Fine on Linen.
