    Description

Invaders from Mars (20th Century Fox, 1953). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
Production Designer turned Director William Cameron Menzies helmed this 50s sci-fi fantasy about a boy who believes his parents have been taken over by alien invaders. During this era, one of the more common story-lines in the movies involved peoples minds and bodies being "invaded" and reflects the nation-wide paranoia of a possible communist invasion. Like War of the Worlds and This Island Earth, the studios obviously felt that the science-fiction genre was important enough to film these movies in color -- an expensive process in 1953. The lobby card set from this film is a fantastic walk back in time to that era of sci-fi filmmaking, and this one is well preserved for the amount of use it surely received. The title card has a small amount of missing paper in the bottom border/inset photos, pinholes, a two inch scratch/cut in the upper left, and smudging. Five of the scene cards have the same scratch/cut as the title card. The #6 card has the same paper loss as the title card, and all of the lobbies show smudging and/or pinholes. Fine+.
