    Description

    Wuthering Heights (United Artists/ENIC, 1939). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. Italian 4 - Fogli (55" X 77") Francesco Giammari Artwork.
Starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, the 1939 adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights is perhaps the most beautiful and moving film version of the classic novel. The film earned eight Academy Award nominations, winning Best Cinematography for its gorgeous black and white images, and it is often listed as one of the great romantic dramas in film history. This wonderful stone litho poster is from the film's first release in Italy, and, as a Heritage first, it is the only known copy we are aware of to exist of the original-release Italian 4-fogli. Prior to restoration, the poster displayed edge and fold wear, pinholes, tears, chips, fold separations, scuffs, and a bit of missing paper on the underside of where the poster's two panels overlap. There was also a tear near Oberon's hairline on the left side of her face, and there is a minute scuff still visible in her mouth. There was also a snipe removed from the producer's credit. The poster is backed on linen, and touchup has been applied to many of the poster's issues, though some are still visible including light smudges, subtle toning, and stains mostly in the border.
