    Description

Thelma Todd by Bud "Stax" Graves (Hal Roach, 1934). Autographed Portrait Photo (10.5" X 13.5").
Vintage gelatin silver, double weight, black and white, matte finish portrait photo with a beautiful basket weave texturing. This charming portrait of funny lady, Thelma Todd, was taken by long time Hal Roach studio photographer, Bud "Stax" Graves, with his photographer's stamp on the verso. It is autographed in white ink on the left: "To Sergeant Caldwell, 'Takes the Stand', with my good wishes. Thelma Todd & Gallant." The reference is to Take the Stand, a 1934 film that Todd made with journeyman film grip and electrician, Fred "Sergeant" Caldwell while she was on loan to Liberty Films. One of the true "mysteries" of Hollywood's often volatile, Golden Era, Todd's death has never been explained to anyone's satisfaction. Very Fine+.
