    Description

The Spider Woman (Universal, 1944). Half Sheet (22" X 28").
Taking a break from Nazi saboteurs and the evil Professor Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) take on the strange case of the "pajama suicides," wealthy men who go to sleep in the evening and then wake up in the middle of the night to commit suicide! Of course Holmes deduces it's actually the venom of a poisonous spider that kills the men and also realizes it's most likely murder. Gale Sondergaard, who just naturally projected sinister attitude, became the "female Moriarty" for Holmes in this thrilling mystery and it became a challenge of wits between the two to see who would be victorious. This poster has a wonderful design, with all three lead actors and a cartoonish "spider woman" in the background. Touchup has been applied to pinholes, mild creases, small tears, and a few surface scuffs. A couple of the pinholes were in the interior, and the borders have been airbrushed. Very Fine- on Paper.
