    Description

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (20th Century Fox, Mid 1940s). First Post-War Release French Half Grande (31.5" X 46.5") Jacques Bonneau Artwork.
Paper from this film is very scarce, and Heritage is pleased to present for the first time this fantastic French half grande. A smash hit at the box office, 20th Century Fox's Hound of the Baskervilles, starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, gained so much popularity that they took a second crack at Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional sleuth in a film that proved to be just as thrilling as its predecessor. Co-starring Ida Lupino and George Zucco as Moriarty, this classic mystery would set the benchmark for all of the twelve other movies made in Universal Studio's series. Interestingly enough, this was the only entry in the film series not based on a Doyle story, but rather on the famous stage play by William Gillette. Jacques Bonneau provides some dynamic noir styled artwork perfect for such an exciting film. Touchup has been applied to the folds and some paper loss in the upper vertical fold, mild toning in the borders and folds has not been restored. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
