    Description

The Jazz Singer (Warner Brothers, 1929). German Poster (37.25" X 66") Lapiner Artwork.
On October 6, 1927, The Jazz Singer premiered at the Warner Theater in New York City, broke box-office records, established Warner Brothers as a major player in Hollywood, and is traditionally credited with single-handedly launching the talkie revolution. Produced by the studio with their novel Vitaphone sound process, as seen by the wonderful flag logo on this poster, Al Jolson became the first man to ever speak on the silver screen in a feature length film. His first words were prophetic -- "Wait a minute, wait a minute, you ain't heard nothing' yet!" The production costs for the film totaled $422,000, a large sum for the cash-strapped studio. But the picture was a hit, creating a worldwide sensation and virtually saving Warners. Offered for the first time by Heritage, this fabulous German poster boasts great artwork of Jolson's iconic character by the artist Lapiner. It shows mild edge and fold wear, fold separations, creases, and tears in the borders. There are tape stains in the borders, and a small amount of writing in one corner. The poster has a Weimar Republic ink censorship stamp in the right background with ink transfer at the top. The verso has archival tape on the folds and along the right edge. Folded, Fine/Very Fine.
