    Description

    Zorro's Fighting Legion (Republic, 1939). Studio Issued Cloth Banner (35" X 117").
Reed Hadley, as the masked hero Zorro, leads a legion of horsemen (singing "We Ride" at the beginning of every episode) against the traitors who would bring down the new Republic of Mexico. A trademark of this serial is the sudden demise of at least one native informant in each episode -- each informant, upon uttering the phrase, "Don Del Oro is..." is shot by a golden arrow and dies before being able to name the villain's alter ego. Hence, the large golden arrow slicing across this wonderfully bright banner that's bursting with action. The masked Zorro is thrilling as he shoots, brawls, and rescues across this sensational piece of film memorabilia, a Heritage first. These banners were advertised in the pressbook and were sometimes called Five Color Marquee or Flash Banners. They were used by the theaters to leave hanging throughout the ten to fifteen week run of the serial and are generally very rare. There are grommets in the borders. Minor handling includes fold wear, folded back corners, light stains in the borders, scratches in the horses at the left, creasing, and some misfolding with wear. Fine/Very Fine.
