    Description

Yankee Doodle Dandy (Warner Brothers, 1942). Linen Finish Insert (14" X 36") From the Warner Media Archive.
Famed director Michael Curtiz, the proverbial workhorse at Warner Brothers, put James Cagney's talents as a dancer to use in this musical revue of the life of George M. Cohan. The film was a huge sensation for the studio as Cohan's Broadway musicals were also extremely popular. When the film was released, it was shown privately to Cohan as he neared death. He loved it as much as his own productions and commented, "My God! What an act to follow!" The Academy must have agreed with him and gave Cagney the Oscar for Best Actor. The poster shows edge wear typical of linen-finish paper, very slight creasing, small tears, pinholes and two tiny minor chips out of the lower corners. There is a slight grease pencil mark in the lower left credits. The poster has paper and cellophane tape on the verso. One of the interesting and very nice aspects of this poster is that it was the last series of posters issued by Warner Brothers on their linen-finish paper. Rolled, Fine+.
