    Description

World War II U.S. Naval Aviation (U.S. Navy, c. 1943). Rolled, Fine/Very Fine. Aviation Training Posters (3) (39" X 59") Photography by Horace Bristol, Under the Direction of Edward Steichen.
Certainly considered items of great scarcity, these large format training posters from the U.S. Navy's aviation program were almost entirely disposed of after the war was won, making these first-time offers from Heritage quite the prize for fans of aviation history. All featured within this lot, planes like the Grumman Avengers torpedo bombers, dogfighting Vought Corsairs, and scouting aircraft like the Vought Kingfisher were all integral to the U.S. Navy's success in the Pacific theater. Also fundamental were the fearless paratroopers of the U.S. Marines that helped claim victory over the Japanese forces, island by island. Famed Life magazine and Naval combat photographer Edward Steichen led and handpicked the talented team of photographers behind these images, including Horace Bristol, who took the amazing in-flight photo of the Grumman Avengers. General handling includes slight edge wear, soft creases, and minor tears. The "Paramarines" poster has a small corner chip in the lower left, and "Eyes of the Navy" has a minor reattached lower left corner chip. Each poster has tears extending from either the top or bottom border braced with archival tape on the verso. Rolled, Fine/Very Fine.
