World War I Propaganda (Selmar Beyar,1918). German Poster (26.5" X 36.5") "That is How It Looked in Germany," Egon Tschirch Artwork.
A gorgeous stone litho image from the German war propaganda machine by artist Egon Tschirch (1889-1948). The line reads, "This is how it looked in Germany as the French came to the Rhine." Tschirch produced German propaganda posters for the war press office in Berlin, but was also a soldier who was wounded several times. He is considered one of the most important artists in Mecklenburg, Germany, and was one of the co-founders of the Rostock Artists Association in 1919. This and the other poster offered in the auction by Tschirch are of special note, as this was the last use of the old German Gothic typeface. Hitler would later forbid the use of the type style as he associated it with an older, more traditional society. Touchup has been applied to the folds and small chips in the borders. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $600 - $1,200.
