Description

    World War I Propaganda (Liberty Loan Committee & New York American, 1918). Posters (2) (20" X 29.5" & 19" X 24.75") "The A.E.F. for the President" C. Leroy Baldridge Artwork & "Fourth Liberty Loan."
An effective call to action, these posters for the Fourth U.S. Liberty Loan strike with a similar, personalized theme of handwritten notes. The first from the American Expeditionary Force offering their paychecks to fund the war, the second from President Woodrow Wilson urging the public to give financial support to troops overseas. The loan itself turned out to be a huge success, more than meeting its goal thanks to patriotism of the U.S. citizens. Both posters have stains, smudging, and edge wear with tears and chipping. Some of these issues are post-restoration. The A.E.F. poster shows toning in the borders, is beginning to separate from the linen, and has minor pencil writing at the bottom. The Liberty Loan poster has a hole in the upper left border and some surface paper loss. Although backed on linen, these posters have had no further restoration. Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $300 - $600.
