DescriptionWorld War I Propaganda (Central Recruiting Committee, 1917). Very Fine- on European Linen. Full-Bleed Canadian Recruiting Poster (24.75" X 38.25") "Your Chums Are Fighting, Why Aren't You?"
Canada entered World War I as part of the British Empire when the United Kingdom declared war on Germany in 1914, nonetheless the Canadian government ultimately controlled Canada's degree of participation in the war and in turn declared war on Germany cementing their involvement. Many Canadian soldiers voluntarily fought in the Great War as many citizens heavily opposed conscription, leading to the necessity of recruiting posters such as this. There has been no restoration applied to this stone litho poster, which still shows mild edge wear, slight creases, small tears, and minor chips. The poster also has minute paper lifts, a few thin surface scuffs, and faint foxing. The linen has been trimmed to the borders. Very Fine- on European Linen.
Estimate: $400 - $800.
