World War I Propaganda (c. 1917). Fine/Very Fine on European Linen. Poster (28" X 41") "The American Ambulance in Russia."
Begun in 1914 along the western front in France, the American Volunteer Motor Ambulance Corps took on the harrowing task of collecting and transporting injured Allied troops from the battlefields to hospitals. Often becoming targets themselves in the midst of gunfire and exploding mortars, ambulance drivers required nerves of steel in their attempt to save lives. Though most of the Corps resources were stationed in France, a handful took on the daunting task of serving on the even less secure eastern front in Russia, Serbia, and Albania. Backed on European linen but not restored, this poster is being offered for the first time at Heritage and shows edge wear, some creasing, moderate tears, and small chips. There are a few unobtrusive smudges, some paper lifts, and faint dust shadows. The linen has been trimmed to the borders and may extend very slightly into the edge of the paper in some places. Fine/Very Fine on European Linen.

    Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
