World War I Propaganda (1916). French 4th National Defense Loan Poster (31.5" X 44.25") "Souscrivez pour la victoire. Banque Nationale de Crédit," Richard Gutz Artwork.
France's national symbol of the Republic, Marianne, takes the form of the winged goddess Victory, flying as the vanguard for the Allied troops. This beautiful illustration by Richard Gutz comes from a promotional campaign for the Fourth National Defense Loan, which was funded by patriotic citizens. A Heritage first, professional restoration to this lovely poster has addressed numerous pinholes, chips and mild tears in the interior, and paper loss along the borders. This paper loss avoids the vast majority of the text at the top and bottom. All of the white in the borders has been airbrushed, and the poster still shows unaddressed color fading. Very Good/Fine on Linen.

    Estimate: $400 - $800.
