    Description

Wolves of the Rail (Artcraft, 1918). One Sheet (28" X 41").
William S. Hart was the original screen cowboy and certainly one of cinema's greatest silent film stars. After some years as a stage actor, Hart ventured into film acting in 1914. He started in Westerns and remained there for the next ten years, starring in over seventy films, more than fifty of which he also directed (including Wolves of the Rail). He portrays Buck, the leader of a gang of bandits that has targeted the trains of the Smoky Gap Railroad for holdups. The president of the railroad sends a ruthless detective (C. Norman Hammond) to put a stop to Buck, dead or alive. Will he reform at the behest of his dying mother before it's too late? A Heritage first, this stone litho one sheet is filled with head-to-toe, boots and spurs Western imagery -- although Hart seems to be without the requisite weapons as he faces down his foe. Professional restoration has addressed fold wear, and a small chip in the top and bottom left corners. Paper for this title rarely surfaces, and this is the first one sheet we've seen. Very Fine on Linen.
