    Description

    Wings (Paramount, 1927). Fine+. Linen Finish Lobby Cards (4) (11" X 14").
This film was billed as "An Epic of the Air," and was honored with the very first Best Picture Academy Award in 1929 (then referred to as the "Best Production" award). Star Richard Arlen had been a fighter pilot in World War I, and co-star Charles Rogers learned to fly during the course of the picture, as filming closeup scenes required the actors, during the flying scenes, to not only fly the planes, but operate the motorized cameras, act, and land safely as well. The result is an engaging film, as thrilling today as it was when it was previewed in San Antonio in 1927. General wear between the cards includes pinholes, some creases, mostly unobtrusive stains, and small tears. Other wear found in the set includes surface scuffs, as well as minor chips and paper lifts. A few of the cards display toning and the card with Clara Bow and Charles Rogers has a small piece of paper tape on the verso bracing a crease. Lobby cards from this silent drama set during Word War I are few and far between, making this lot a top choice for discerning collectors.

    Estimate: $800 - $1,600.
