    Wild Women (Universal, 1918). Six Sheet (81" X 81").
The winning combination of star Harry Carey and director John "Jack" Ford produced another hit with this 1918 Western. Carey plays his famous character Cheyenne Harry, a cowpuncher who, after winning some serious money at a San Francisco rodeo, goes out on a tear with his pals. They end up sleeping it off in the back room of a cabaret, where the "wild women" of the title are seen performing an energetic hula dance. When he comes to, Harry discovers he and his friends are mysteriously kidnapped and taken to an island, which turns out to be teeming with energetic native women. Harry pursues the island's appealing princess, only to be pursued himself by the less-appealing queen, who claims him as her husband. Just as he is about to kiss his new bride, Harry awakens to find that his entire seafaring adventure has been a liquor-induced nightmare. Between 1917 and 1921, Ford would direct Carey in over 25 Westerns, and go on to win four Best Director Oscars and shoot some of the most famous films in cinema history. This is the only known copy of this spectacular stone litho six sheet and is just magnificent in its layout. On the raft in the upper right, Carey is clearly seen standing and saluting. As the film is now lost, we will never know if this scene appeared in the film. Prior to professional restoration, the poster was kraft backed. There was some chipping around the outer borders as well as a larger chip gone from the lower right corner that just extended into the artwork. There was wear to a number of the folds, some having slight paper loss. There was more wear on the horizontal fold line that runs through the female character's chest up to the centerpoint. Most all of of the image paper was intact. The poster now displays beautifully, and we are delighted to offer such a great rarity. Fine on Linen.
