    Description

Tom Mix Circus Poster (Circus Poster, 1937). One Sheet (28" X 41"). Tom Mix was without a doubt the most famous Western star of the silent screen. His fame was world-wide and rivaled that of other such luminaries as Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. By the early 1930s, Mix's popularity was beginning to fade as the sound era began to dawn. New stars such as Buck Jones and Tom Tyler were beginning to take the spotlight from Mix. So in 1936 Tom Mix decided to take his own circus on the road. He would continue to travel with his own circus for several seasons and would then go abroad to make personal appearances. When he died in a car accident in 1940, he was traveling to California to make another movie! This gorgeous stone litho one sheet is from his appearances with his circus in Danville, Illinois in 1936 and notes his "Entertainment Insurance." The poster is folded horizontally three times. It has some slight wear to the border. The added paper playdate snipe (28" X 9.5") is pasted to the bottom border. It can be easily removed if the poster were to ever be sent to be linen backed. Very Fine.
