Description

The Sheriff's Baby (Biograph, R-1915). Fine+ on Linen. Three Sheet (41.5" X 82.25").
Heritage is pleased to present this only known copy of this ultra-rare three sheet, one of only a few early Biograph posters to ever turn up! It comes from the first re-release of a 1913 film by D. W. Griffin, starring Henry B. Walthall, Harry Carey, and Lionel Barrymore as three bandits who discover an abandoned baby in the desert, a plot that would be remade over and over again well into the sound era. And, to top it off, the film was directed by Griffith the year before he left Biograph and directed Birth of a Nation. Biograph did not put actor or director credits on any of Griffith's original film posters. In 1915, after The Birth of a Nation hit it big, they started reissuing some of his best Biographs, with full credits. Professional restoration on this stone litho poster has addressed fold wear and separations, pinholes, tears, and small chips. There was a 1" - 2" tear along most of the border, but this does not affect the printing and has since been replaced. The borders and white background have been airbrushed.
