The Outlaw (20th Century Fox, 1941). Three Sheet (41" X 81"). Though completed and copyrighted in 1941, its conflagration with the Hays Office over its violation of their Production Code kept it from being released until 1943, and then only to a limited number of theatres. It was given a wide release in 1946, which was supposed to be through United Artists but instead was made by RKO. The changeover is evident on this three sheet, which carries a 1946 United Artists copyright, but an RKO stamp on its back. Also, within the image portion on the lower edge were originally written the words "Released Through United Artists". These were covered by paint and an RKO logo sticker. The paint is still present, but the sticker has been removed, leaving three white letters showing. Paper for pre-1950 releases of this title are very rare and this is only one of two of these three sheets known to exist. The artwork is most likely by one of the world's most famous female pinup artist, Zoe Mozert and is in beautiful shape. Mozert's mastery is evident here in this stunning portrait of the film's star, Jane Russell, complete with her highly controversial cleavage. This poster has minor edge wear and wrinkles, as well as some small edge tears and crosspoint separations. Three of the crosspoint separations have been repaired with archival tape. This is a magnificent piece and a very rare find that is even more desirable in light of recently renewed interest in Howard Hughes. Very Fine+.
