Description
The Last Trail (Fox, 1927). Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28.25" X 41.25").Certainly, the biggest name of all the cowboy stars to gallop across the silent silver screen was Tom Mix, who started out as a performer in a Wild West show in Oklahoma, where he stood out as a remarkable rider and expert shot. Moving westward, he won a number of national riding and roping contests, before eventually making his way to sunny California. Joining the Selig Polyscope Company in 1909, Mix quickly rose through the ranks in more than 100 shorts to become one of the very first motion picture stars. After Selig Polyscope ran into financial difficulties, William Fox signed Mix to a contract starting at $350 per week, but as his star continued to rise, so did his salary, eventually escalating to $17,000 per week. Offered here is a very rare one-sheet from one of the last films he made at Fox, The Last Trail. This was the second adaptation Mix starred in from a novel by celebrated Western author Zane Grey. This poster has action-packed artwork of Mix overcoming disaster to win an important stagecoach race. Touchup has been applied to fold wear and separation, chips, tears, stains, a corner bend, pinholes, creases, and a tape paper lift under "Whirlwind." Additional touchup has been applied to Tom Mix's credit and the R and A in "Trail." The linen is trimmed close to the borders, which have been airbrushed.
