The Galloping Ace (Universal, 1924). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (25" X 38.5").
The Galloping Ace was released by Universal in 1924 alongside one big Jewel production and three other five-reel features, and was adapted from The Drifter, a story by Jacques Jaccard. Starring Jack Hoxie, the film finds the actor in a congenial role as a chap who, after doing his part for his country during the Great War, returns to find his job gone and his girl usurped by another fellow. Taking a new job on a ranch run by a woman (Margaret Morris) he succeeds in overcoming the schemes of a villainous profiteer. The film would be one of many successful Western shorts featuring Hoxie while under contract with Universal through the early 1920s. This wonderful stone litho features a stirring encounter between the hero and a band of minions of the villain. The borders have been airbrushed to address edge wear, creases, tears, and small bits of paper loss. Some scuffs, paper lifts, and pinholes still visible throughout the interior image.
