    Description

The Dark Command (Republic, 1940). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
Once again, Republic cast John Wayne and Claire Trevor together in a western based in the Pre-Civil War era Kansas Territory. The villain (portrayed by Walter Pidgeon) goes by the name of Will Cantrell but was based on the real-life and notorious William Quantrill who led his Raiders pillaging the Kansas Territory. Republic must have known they had an "A" picture on their hands and cast their current B Western mega-stars Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes in supporting roles as well. The title card has scratches and pinholes in it with a piece off of the lower left corner. Five of the scene cards have minor wear with light creasing evident and the other two scenes have scratches, pinholes, 1 chip out of the upper border and minor tears in the edges. Fine/Very Fine.
