Description

The Bandit of Point Loma (American Film Company, 1912). Fine/Very Fine on Linen. One Sheet (28" X 42.5").
After directing nearly eighty short films during his first year of filmmaking, Allan Dwan followed up in 1912 with an impressive one hundred thirteen titles, and among those was this title The Bandit of Point Loma (but of course realize that almost all of those nearly 200 films are surely now lost, and that virtually no movie posters exist for any of them), In The Bandit of Point Loma J. Warren Kerrigan stars as a fisherman whose girlfriend is taken with another man, who is actually a wanted criminal. After directing many of these very early westerns and comedy shorts, Dwan moved on to more ambitious projects and worked with some of the top stars of the silent era, including Mary Pickford, Gloria Swanson, Marion Davies, and Douglas Fairbanks. His career lasted into the 1960s and he directed sound films such as Heidi (1937), Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), and Sands of Iwo Jima (1949). Dwan was also notable for helping to launch the career of Victor Fleming, who worked as a cinematographer for Dwan. This one sheet for The Bandit of Point Loma (almost surely the only surviving example) returns to Heritage, displaying touchup to chips in the borders and crossfolds and tears in the borders.
