    Description

Men of the Desert (Essanay, 1917). Folded, Very Fine. One Sheet (28" X 42") and Herald (5.5" X 7" unfolded).
Presumably lost, this 1917 silent Western/drama, directed by W.S. Van Dyke, was produced by the Essanay Film Manufacturing Company. What has survived is this beautifully preserved stone litho one sheet inspired by the film. It depicts Jack Gardner, on the left, as a cowboy who has just wandered into a town in need of protection from feuding cattlemen and sheepherders. He agrees to assist the sheriff and winds up wounded, but is nursed back to health by Ruth King, a cattleman's daughter, seen at the center of the poster. The poster has a slight misprint above the horizonal center fold where ink was not applied. There is what appears to be some water tide marks in the upper and lower order and minor wear to the right border. The unfolded herald is near mint. Folded, Very Fine.
