    Description

    Joan Crawford in Johnny Guitar (Republic, 1954). Large Photo (11" X 14"), Radio Interview Vinyl Record (12" X 12"), & Signed Letters (2) (8.5" X 11"). Western.
Offered is a unique assortment of pieces related to Nicholas Ray's classic noir Western, Johnny Guitar - produced the year before his groundbreaking teenage drama Rebel without a Cause. Ray was brought onto the project personally by Joan Crawford, who held the rights to the original novel by Roy Chanslor (who had actually dedicated the piece to her from the get-go). In addition to the vintage gelatin silver, double weight, matte finish photo from the film, featuring a tense scene with Crawford and co-star Sterling Hayden, the lot includes two letters from Crawford to the studio brass, denoting her approval of Harry Stradling as Director of Photography and Sheila O'Brien as Wardrobe Designer (in which they did fantastic jobs - particularly in Stradling's use of Tru Color, which Crawford also approves of here), along with an original 78 rpm recording of a five-minute, open-ended interview with the star, about her experience on the project. Unrestored items with clean overall appearances. They may show general signs of use, such as slight edge and corner wear, light creases, faint smudges, or small tears. The letters display additional fold wear and tape stains, and it appears as though someone once half-heartedly attempted to remove Crawford's signature from the letter regarding Stradling, before thankfully thinking the better of it. The record seems to be in great shape, with just a few minor scratches in the grooves. Please see full-color, enlargeable images above for more details. Overall Grade: Very Fine-.
