Headin' South (Paramount-Artcraft, 1918). Folded, Very Fine+. Swedish Linocut One Sheet (23.5" X 35").Douglas Fairbanks stars as a Canadian Mountie who impersonates a notorious bandit named "Headin' South," in order to infiltrate the lair of bandit Frank Campeau. The outlaw has kidnapped a pretty young thing (Katherine MacDonald), who at first spurns Fairbanks' romantic overtures, thinking he is a bandit, but soon falls for the energetic charmer. Leading lady MacDonald was a spectacular young actress known as "The American Beauty." She was reportedly the mistress of President Woodrow Wilson. This is a wonderful first time offer from Heritage and is done in linocut lithography. Produced using the Linocut printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the linoleum surface and the sheet is inked with a roller called a brayer, and then impressed onto paper. Although linoleum as a floor covering dates to the 1860s, the linocut printing technique was used first by the artists of Die Brücke in Germany between 1905 and 1913 where it had been similarly used for wallpaper printing. They initially described these prints as woodcuts, which sounded more respectable.
