Description

Cimarron (RKO, 1931). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").
Here is the rare complete set of eight lobby cards for the first Western ever to win an Oscar for Best Picture, a feat that wasn't repeated until Dances with Wolves in 1990. Richard Dix stars as Yancey Cravat and Irene Dunne is his wife Sabra. Cravat is a restless daredevil out to make an impression on the world but it is his wife who winds up the business tycoon. The film opens with a restaging of the Oklahoma Land Rush, a massive cinematic undertaking with hundreds of extras and horse drawn buggies and wagons that helped to garner some of the film's awards. All of these lovely cards have had touchup to the borders, and the title card used to show pinholes in the corners and borders, as well as some chipping in the borders. Four scene cards had pinholes in the background and six had a few chips in the borders. The title card still shows some minor spotted stains in the title. The full set of cards for this film seldom show up in one sale, so don't miss this rare opportunity. Fine/Very Fine.
