Description

Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Pawnee Bill's Great Far East Combined (Theatrical Poster, 1910). Poster (28" X 41.25").
Toward the end of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody's career he combined his world famous Wild West show with Pawnee Bill's Great Far East show. This amazing stone litho poster, produced by the Morgan Litho Co., was one of the great posters produced for the show. Cody considered these performances as part of his "farewell tour," as he planned to retire in Wyoming afterwards. Finding himself in monetary need while in Denver, Colorado, he borrowed $20,000 to finance the show. A year later, in 1913, unable to repay the debt, the show was foreclosed on and sold at auction. This signaled the beginning of Cody's financial decline. Posters for the Buffalo Bill Wild West shows have always been in high demand, and this particular example features a wonderful image of him, along with an Indian on horseback and camels near the Sphinx and pyramids in Egypt. Prior to the excellent restoration, there were tears in the left border and bottom border extending into the background, and a tear in the top right corner. There was paper loss in the bottom border extending into the credits, the top left corner was chipped, and there were small chips in the top and right borders. There has also been touchup to the folds. Heritage has never offered another copy of this poster before! The restoration has left this poster looking immaculate. Fine on Linen.
