Description

Arizona (Artcraft, 1918). Folded, Fine/Very Fine. One Sheet (27" X 41").
Based on the 1899 Augustus Thomas stage play of the same name, Arizona would be Douglas Fairbanks' second to last film for Artcraft before leaving to become a co-founder of United Artists. This film co-starred Marjorie Daw and Kathleen Kirkham, two actresses that had become inseparably identified with many of Fairbanks' pictures, having played in almost all of his productions. Fairbanks directs and stars in this love triangle that unfolds in the West (shot on location) as Lieutenant Denton, an Army officer whose feats of daring earn him the favor of the ladies and his commanding officers alike. The now lost film was a box-office success with audiences and helped set the stage for the actor to become a superstar with swashbuckler-adventure hits such as The Three Musketeers and Robin Hood. This stone litho one sheet presents a handsome and unusual portrait of the actor in military uniform. The piece exhibits light fold wear, tears, a few chips and minor paper loss in the borders, creases, and some fold separations.
