Werewolf of London (Universal, 1935). Lobby Card (11" X 14").
This was the original movie lycanthrope, the beginning of the cinema werewolf mythology, and the inspiration for many artists to come--including John Landis and Warren Zevon. The first screen werewolf came six years before the more famous Wolf Man, in the form of Dr. Wilfred Glendon (Henry Hull). The botanist is bitten in Tibet while on the search for a rare flower, marifasa lupina. When he returns to London and starts howling, he finds that the marifasa is the only cure for his condition. Jack Pierce's original makeup proved to be too burdensome for Hull, so Pierce scaled back his lycanthropic transformation. Later, Pierce was able to take his unused designs out of mothballs, recycling them for Lon Chaney Jr. There are pinholes in the borders with some into the interior, a chip in the top right and bottom left corner, a tear in the left border, and a dust shadow in the upper border. Very Fine-.

    Estimate: $1,800 - $3,600.
